Price. AUD$28.55 ($20-30)
Author. Annaka Harris [US Author]
Smile from special person. Priceless
Tips. Gift direct online to your special person if you have their address.
At this stage The Book Depository don’t include messages if you buy this as a gift but hopefully they will change this in the near future- I asked them to and if more people ask you never know. In the meantime its fun for your friend to figure out who the mystery gift came from or you can post them a card to arrive separately which I like to do also.
What is it?
Eva takes a walk with her mother and encounters a range of mysteries: from gravity, to life cycles, to the vastness of the universe. She learns that it's okay to say "I don't know," and she discovers that there are some things even adults don't know--mysteries for everyone to wonder about together! I Wonder is a book that celebrates the feelings of awe and curiosity in children, as the foundation for all learning.
“The purpose of I Wonder is to teach very young children (and their parents) to cherish the feeling of “not knowing” as the basis of all discovery. In a world driven by false certainties, I can think of no more important lesson to impart to the next generation”
Sam Harris, Neuroscientist and Author.
"I Wonder offers crucial lessons in emotional intelligence, starting with being secure in the face of uncertainty. Annaka Harris has woven a beautiful tapestry of art, storytelling, and profound wisdom. Any young child -- and parent -- will benefit from sharing this wondrous book together."
Daniel Goleman, author of the #1 bestseller Emotional Intelligence.
"I Wonder captures the beauty of life and the mystery of our world, sweeping child and adult into a powerful journey of discovery. Magnificent!"
Daniel Siegel, author of Mindsight and The Whole-Brain Child.
A child or anyone really, it is a beautiful read with whimsical illustrations by John Rowe.
My experience & why I love it.
I discovered this book from listening to the ’10 percent happier’ Podcast by Dan Harris episode 190, ‘The fundamental mystery of the mind’. Here, Dan and Annaka discuss another one of Annaka’s books titled ‘Conscious’ with mention of ‘I wonder’. A really fascinating listen for anyone wanting to delve into a conversation about the conscious mind.
My planet packaging rating. 5/5 stars. Keep it forever, pass it along to someone special or donate to your local Salvation Army store but I would 100% keep this one.
I bought this book for my friend her daughter’s first birthday. I also gifted it to my daughter for her first birthday as I just love the message and curiosity it creates. Perhaps a great first birthday gift idea?!
Instead of birthday cards for my daughter each year I have decided to gift her a book instead and write the message that I would have written in a card inside the front cover (and add a photo of her at that age) so it is always there. Cards get lost and put away but books are keepsakes.
