What is it? (extract taken from the packaging)

"A richly moisturising and gently cleansing soap for face and body, bath or basin. Crafted to balance and brighten, this bar energises tired skin. Especially kind to dry or mature skin".

Sphaera soap bars are all natural, sustainably produced and organic where possible. Their studio practice and packaging employs sustainable, minimal impact and locally sourced materials and are all cruelty free and vegan.

Why did i buy it?

On my journey to zero waste, I have already reduced many items in the bathroom that were packaged in plastic and or toxic to my body over the years. The change to more natural products was fairly easy but then the change to plastic free products more challenging. My changes have evolved slowly. I really do think that ‘slow’ is the key to lasting life changes in this space. This is true for me anyway.

I will do other posts about what changes I have made but for now its body and face cleanser, which is why I bought this.

I have been on the look out for a soap for my face for awhile to eventually not have a plastic container to deal with after the product has been used. I was hesitant at first because since moving to New Zealand and ‘Windy’ Wellington my skin is so dry. I use two layers of rosehip oil after I have cleansed my face and that doesn’t even handle the dryness.

My experience.

At the start it was a little weird using a soap on my face but that’s just because it was different to all the face washes I have ever used. I use Santé by ENJO makeup remover pads (which are worth the investment) to remove any eye makeup. The wipes teamed with the soap work well.

I keep my soap cube in a ceramic soap dish where it doesn’t get wet and can dry between washes- this is the key to making it last. I bought my dish from a local Wellington designer Deborah Sweeney who makes the most beautiful minimalist ceramics. Worth a look and I will post about this purchase soon.

I love how each cube of soap represents our earth and that each batch is made using the ‘cold pressed’ method, which means it is blended in small batches, poured, hand cut and air-cured for several weeks. This traditional technique yields a true soap, preserving the components’ gentle cleansing and moisturising properties.

…do check out the brands instagram feed, it is beautiful.

After 3 months of use.

The soap was so lovely and nourishing but in the end my body liked it more than my face and I think that is mainly because my face needs a lot more moisture due to dryness. Its a perfect body soap though and the scent is subtle which I like. Although I have this in my 'product' category it is actually a stylish gift for someone that wont break the bank.

How long did it last?

The bar lasted me about a month.

My plant packaging rating. 5/5 stars

The soap comes in this paper cube box, which is recyclable but I might keep it and use it to store small pieces of jewellery.

A great shift to zero waste for you, or a unique present for someone. Sphaera also have other soaps available and laundry bars too which I think I will try next for my hand washing.
