[ g i f t e d ] an extraordinary contribution to the literature of death
'Tuesdays with Morrie' by Mitch Albom
Smile from special person. Priceless
Tips. Gift direct online to your special person if you have their address.
At this stage The Book Depository don’t include messages if you buy this as a gift but hopefully they will change this in the near future- I asked them to and if more people ask you never know. In the meantime its fun for your friend to figure out who the mystery gift came from or you can post them a card to arrive separately which I like to do also.
What is it?
A sweet and gentle tribute to age and aging, full of good humor and zest.
“Look, no matter where you live, the biggest defect we human beings have is our shortsightedness. We don’t see what we could be. We should be looking at our potential, stretching ourselves into everything we can become. But if you’re surrounded by people who say ‘I want mine now,’ you end up with a few people with everything and a military to keep the poor ones from rising up and stealing it.”
“The problem, Mitch, is that we don’t believe we are as much alike as we are. Whites and Blacks, Catholics and Protestants, men and women. If we saw each other as more alike, we might be very eager to join in one big human family in this world, and to care about that family the way we care about our own.”
“But believe me, when you are dying, you see it is true. We all have the same beginning—birth—and we all have the same end—death. So how different can we be?
“Invest in the human family. Invest in people. Build a little community of those you love and who love you.”
In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive, right?
His voice dropped to a whisper.
“But here’s the secret: in between we need others as well”.
My experience & why I love it.
This is my favourite book of all time. I have read it now many times and its my go to gift for loved ones.
My planet packaging rating. 5/5 stars . Keep it forever, pass it along to someone special or donate to your local Salvation army store.
Thoughtful books are such a great gift idea for anyone.
I have also read another book of Mitch Albom’s “The Five people you meet in heaven”. I will review this one soon. It is also a favourite of mine and a great gift.
